Different Rabs
There are many different Rabs expressed ubiquitously and specifically throughout the body. Each Rab controls a different pathway within a cell, thus allowing specific vesicle transport.
Here is a table denoting some of the different Rabs and their sub-cellular location(s) in the cell:
Rab |
Subcellular Location |
Rab 1 |
Endoplasmic reticulum & Golgi complex |
Rab 2 |
Cis golgi network |
Rab 3A |
Synsaptic vesicles & Secretory granules |
Rab 4 |
Early endosomes |
Rab 5A |
Plasma membrane & Clathrin-coated vesicles |
Rab 6 |
Medial & trans golgi cisternae |
Rab 7 |
Late endosomes |
Rab 8 |
Secretory vesicles (basolateral) |
Rab9 |
Late endosomes & Trans golgi network |
